Appropriation

This project was created as part of the Photography and Composition subject, during my second year in the Bachelor's Degree program in Design and Multimedia at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, under the guidance of professor José Maçãs de Carvalho.

Given an extensive set of photography authors, the objective of our task was to choose one specific work from any author and develop our own project, appropriating their concepts, approaches, techniques and ideas.

The project I chose to appropriate was the 2001 project "Family Tree", by the Chinese artist Hang Zhuan. Using his idea of a sequential series of photos, containing a rather simple yet noticeable evolution which makes the images progressively more bizarre and chaotic, I decided to "give my body to art" too, by staying still while I allowed some friends to do on me whatever they pleased.
