Arquivo da Cidade
Coimbra, 2022
This project was created in collaboration with Rafael Arias, as part of the Theory of Design and Communication subject, during our first year in the Bachelor's Degree program in Design and Multimedia at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, under the guidance of professor Ana Boavida.
The task assigned to the students was to create a visual identity for a fictional museum. We were presented with a series of different artworks, each associated with a museum, and after choosing one, the objective of the project was to create a color palette from the image, as well as designing a module based on a detail from it, and develop the whole identity revolving those elements.
The artwork we selected was Charles Demuth's 1931 painting "...And the Home of the Brave", for its industrial colors and very geometric nature. After choosing Futura for its similarly geometric characteristics, and drawing a module based on a window, for its minimalistic structure, we then built the rest of the visual identity, that included a pattern that ressembled a city map, and we also designed an slightly different version of the logo, to be used in smaller scales.
